Isabelle Wildhaber is a Full Professor of Private and Business Law at the University of St.Gallen and Vice Dean of the Law School, Managing Director of the Institute for Work, Organization and Transformation (FAA-HSG), and a co-founder of the Center for Law and Tech (and previously of the Law & Tech Lab). From 2015 to 2024 she chaired the University of St.Gallen's Equal Opportunity Commission and served as the Rectorate's Delegate for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. She is also the founder of the startup Vamoz AG, a SaaS company supporting remote work abroad.
Her research addresses the intersection of private law (contract law, liability law and labour law) with new technologies. She is particularly interested in liability questions arising from new technologies (from 1996 to around 2015 these centred mainly on genetic engineering and biotechnology, and since 2015 on robotics and AI). She also researches new technologies in the workplace, examining the impact of AI, robotics and digitalisation on the employment relationship, labour law and employee protection.
Isabelle has been admitted to the bar in Switzerland since 1998 and in New York since 2001. She completed an LL.M. at Harvard Law School from 2000-2001 and worked as an attorney at the international law firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton in New York and Frankfurt a.M. from 2001-2006. She then moved from practice into academia, pursuing an SNSF-funded habilitation on "Labour Law in Corporate Restructuring," which she wrote at Humboldt University Berlin and completed in 2010. Isabelle Wildhaber has been a professor at the University of St.Gallen since 2010.
